Composition Workshop 1 – Cycle~440

 

Cycle~440 is a group made up of Kevin Penkin and Sam Gillies. I know Kevin as a composer writing for games but also working with Nobou Uematsu who is one of the composer for the famous game series “Final Fantasy”, so it was interesting to see his other works. Kevin and Sam talked about their tour in Japan which was interesting for since Japan is one of my top places to visit! I learnt that the noise scene in japan is called the “onkyokei” or “onkyo” which was interesting to know. They showed some of their compositions together as a duo and I liked how the Kevin's piano juxtaposes against Sam's electronic sounds, both sounds are totally different yet they fit together so well for me. To me they have kind of inspired me to try something like that one day.
